On a sunny afternoon in August we made paper with a mould and deckle.
Here we’ve layed down some blended, recycled newspaper with flower petals onto our DIY mould & deckle. Using natural powdered pigments I collected from Morocco in 2019, we’re dying the paper. These specific vivid colors are indigo and cochinelle (smashed & powdered beetles!).
The girls loved working with the pretty pulp from the dyes and flowers. We layered the wet sheets of paper on a table behind the girls and let them dry for a day. We ended up using the dried paper to write our poems on and we strung the papers together to make little booklets binded with string.
